At the end of last week we completed our end of term Spring maths tests and we did really well! We completed an arithmetic test and a problem solving and reasoning test.

This week we have been planning a trip to London. Mr and Mrs Lloyd want to treat their two children to a surprise trip.

We need to help them decide:

  • Which train to catch
  • Which are the cheapest tickets to purchase
  • Which hotel to stay in
  • Where to have breakfast
  • Which are the cheapest places to visit (London Zoo)

and we need to do it using the LEAST amount of money possible!

We are using lots of different mathematical skills we have learnt to help us. For example: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, finding percentages and finding amounts of numbers.

On Thursday, we turned into detectives and had to solve a maths mystery. The school's Easter bunny costume had been cut up into lots of little pieces. We had to solve the mystery by cracking 5 maths clues.

Clue 1: We had to use our knowledge of roman numerals to decide whether the culprit was male or female.

Clue 2: We had to use our times tables to help spell out the colour of their hair.

Clue 3: We had to use the four operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing to figure out how old the culprit was.

Clue 4: Numbers  written as words were jumbled up as anagrams. We had to unjumble the words to reveal the clue.

Clue 5: This clue was the hardest. We had to answer a range of questions based on lots of different maths topics to revel the flavour crisps that were found by the destroyed costume!

We had lots of fun solving the crime!
