The English Curriculum
Our Curriculum is taught as part of a creative curriculum, where English is often the driver. As part of this we ensure children make progress through clearly planned taught sequences based on Pie Corbett's Talk for Writing principles. The attached file shows what we teach within each year group and ensure there is progress across year groups.
Writing at Cranham
At Cranham we believe that children make the best progress in writing through having the opportunities to explore the spoken language. Watch the link below to see Pie Corbett, the creator of Talk for Writing, explain the underlying principles of the approach and how they are used within the classroom.
Handwriting is taught in line with the Nelson Handwriting Scheme.
Reading at Cranham
At Cranham we follow the Rigby Schemes for both Key stage 1 and 2. This offers us the opportunity to teach Guided Reading through a structured and progressive programme. This is supported through Phonics Bug and Floppy's Phonics for early levels to encourage the application of phonic skills. Later the range of texts is broadened through other assorted levelled texts to offer a wider range of reading experiences.
For home reading we use a range of levelled texts to develop bredth and balance to children's reading. We also encourage children to read online through our subscription to Bug Club. Click on the link below and see your child's teacher for their log in.
