Welcome to Beech Class 1

In Beech Class the teacher is Mrs Hayward

Our amazing teaching Assistant is Mrs Brown

Welcome to a new school year, I hope that you have enjoyed the summer holidays-at least the weather was great for us this year. This term we will be encouraging the children to get moving as much as possible, in addition to the many clubs we have available during lunchtime and after school we would like children to be walking or running around the track before the start of the school every morning and will be out on the playground early to monitor let's get moving.

Children will need to have in school every day: a reading diary and book; a water bottle; packed lunch if required; a PE kit consisting of tshirt, shorts, pumps and joggers or jumper when the weather gets colder, earring tape for those with pierced ears. We like to encourage children to come into school independently and put their things away and to take responsibility for their  own belongings so all items being named is a MUST.

Our new topic is 'There's a Lion in my Cornflakes', this is a really fun book to kick start the term, topic homework sheets have been sent out already. As we recognise reading as an important skill we have a new reading challenge in Year 4 this year. In order to take part we ask that children need to be racing at home at the very least 3 times a week. So please let's have as much home reading as possible as I cannot stress how important this is at this young age.

In Maths we will be looking at place value' rounding, ordering and comparing numbers and of course Times Tables... keep practising the times tables -a good website to use is Topmarks Hit the button -so Mums & Dads please test children randomly as many times as possible!! We have also sent home log in details and passwords for my maths- where you can do your homework and ttrockstars where children get to make their own rock avatar (&crock star name) and practise times tables. So get playing.

Our PE days are  Tuesday (outside) and Fridays which is gymnastics inside. When the weather gets colder you may want children to bring in tracksuit bottoms and a long sleeved top
